Indian Red Cross Society Tamil Nadu Branch National Voluntary Blood Donation Day – 01.10.2009 .

On the occasion of “National Voluntary Blood Donation Day” Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch would be thanking its donors by felicitating them. This year the Indian Red Cross Society has planned to celebrate in all the District Branches. Blood Donation Camps, community programmes to create awareness on the importance of Voluntary blood donation will be the highlights of the campaign. Voluntary blood donors donate blood of their own free will for altruistic reasons and get no reward except personal satisfaction. Patients who receive this blood feel a sense of being cared for by others whom they will never meet. As “National Blood Programmes move towards the goal of total voluntary donation, there is an increasing appreciation of these donors and their pivotal role in ensuring adequacy of safe blood. It is important that their contribution be recognized and valued by the community.

On 1st October the blood donors, camp organizers and others who support the IRCS Blood bank will be felicitated. The Youth Red Cross Members will be organizing a blood donation camp at Raj Bhavan, Guindy, Chennai-32. From 15 Universities, 10 donors from each University will donate blood on this occasion. Along with this there will be a mass awareness campaign on motivating people to donate blood. This would be done by distributing pamphlets door to door by the Junior Red Cross Members. Motivating people to come forward to donate blood and retaining regular donors is a challenge and could be overcome only by these annual events highlighting the role the blood donors play in saving lives and improving the lives of millions.
