| 76 separated children were united with their families
Seventy-six boys in the age of 5 to 15 belonging to Assam and Manipur, who had been kept in a small room of an unapproved orphanage that lacked adequate infrastructure facilities near Kuzhithurai in Kanyakumari district were rescued. On receiving complaints, Palayamkottai Juvenile Home Officers with the backing of police personnel, raided ‘Bethesda Blessing Home’ in Palavalai village near Kuzhithurai, Kanyakumari Enquiries revealed that the children from poor families had been brought from the north-eastern States to this three-year oldunrecognized home.

The rescued children — 54 from Manipur and 22 from Assam — were brought to Saranaalayam in Thirunelveli, a home for orphans and destitute women. Among all these children, very few are speaking English, rest of them are speaking only their native tribal language. All these children wanted to go back to their native place for reunion with their parents. After receiving this information the Secretary of Indian Red Cross Society, Thirunelveli District visited Saranaalayam Home and provided food, Cloths and Hygiene kits to the 76 inmates.

The Tracing department in the Indian Red Cross Society Tamil Nadu Branch immediately contacted Thiru.Samarjith Singh, RDRT member, in Manipur and requested to interact with the inmates about their nativity and parents. With all language problems (Tribal Language) it was found out that the children belong to the Zeliangrong community of Tousem sub-division of Tamenglong District in Manipur. Details were collected about their nativity and family details and the same were sent to Manipur State Red Cross for verification.
In mean time, the Department of Social welfare fixed the date for the repatriation of inmates. On the eve of 21.02.2010. All inmates started their journey from Thirunelveli to Madurai by Bus. Madurai District Red Cross Branch had given them a very warm welcome with pack of Snacks Water Bottle to each one of them during their journey at Madurai Railway Junction. On 15.02.2010 from Chennai, they have booked for Guwahati Express and reached Guwahati on 18.02.2010 safely. The Department of Social Welfare, Govt.of Manipur joined them and led them for their family reunification with the support of Manipur Red Cross. Thus 76 separated children were reunited with their parents trough the Tracing services of Red Cross.
