| Integrated Program for Community Development
(a post-tsunami development program implemented in 29 villages from Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai and Kanyakumari districts with the support of Canadian Red Cross)
Health Program: Health camps focusing elderly people were conducted in 4 and 2 villages in Tiruvarur and Pudukottai districts respectively benefiting 300 men and 314 women . One skin diseases specific health camp was conducted in Kanyakumai District benefiting 36 men and 68 women.
Disaster Risk Reduction Program: Village Disaster Management Teams (VDMT) having 25-40 representatives from the community have been formed in 26 villages with more than 50% women representation in order to promote and strengthen community level disaster management structure. Leadership training for the members of VDMT was organized in 6 villages – 2 in Cuddalore, 2 Nagapattinam, 1 in Tiruvarur and 1 in Pudukottai districts respectively.
Be Safe (Child Protection) Program: In continuation of Be Safe Master Training of Trainers (MToT) for IPCD project staff, Training of Trainers (ToT) was organized for Health Promoters from Pudukottai and Tiruvarur Districts. Door-to-door knowledge dissemination on Child Protection begun in a select village in Tiruvarur.
Leaders of Tomorrow – a school program under IPCD Junior Red Cross formation in schools: Junior Red Cross was newly formed in 46 schools (4 in Nagapattinam, 6 in Cuddalore, 5 in Thanjavur, 20 in Tiruvarur, 11 in Pudukottai districts) where JRC was not existing before. This includes 26 primary schools.
First Aid Training for JRC counsellors and Convenors:
First Aid training with focus on injury prevention and management was conducted for 79 JRC counsellors and 6 JRC convenors from our target schools. The training was conducted in 4 batches – each at Cuddalore, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Kanyakumari respectivelty – with traininers hired from Rasthriya Life Saving Society. These trainer personnel have been provided with First Aid reference manual in Tamil. Further first aid kits are under distribution to the 79 schools in order to equip the JRC connvenors to provide first aid services.
