Celebration of National Nutrition Week in IPCD Crèches

The Crèches in all the IPCD intervention districts celebrated the National Nutrition Week in the month of September 2011. The theme for the year's celebration is 'on the steps of nutrition lies the emancipation of next generation – This is our vision and conviction'. As the theme intends to address malnutrition issues and improve the nutritional status of the community primarily through creating awareness, the IPCD staff focused on improving the nutritional status of the children attending the crèches and their families through the same strategy. The objective of the celebration was to create awareness among crèche children and their parents on the importance of nutrition, its impact on overall development of an individual especially the children, appropriate dietary intake and healthy lifestyles.

Events like healthy children competition, cooking competition and lecture on the importance of nutrition especially in childhood by the Medical Officers and Village Health Nurses from the Government Primary Health Centers and Sub Centers marked the celebration. Community representatives and Panchayat leaders actively participated in the events and distributed the prizes to the winners. In all 13 creches, 324 children and 280 parents attended the event. The parents appreciated the staff for organizing such a knowledgeable event and promised to implement the learning's in their day to day life.
