Disaster Management activities November 2011



DDRT Formation and training at Kanchipuram, Tirunelveli and Erode districts.


IRCS Kanchipuram, Tirunelveli and Erode District branches organized District Disaster Response Team formation and training programme with support of IRCS NHQ, for volunteers.


The sessions were on RC movement, DM impacts, and role of Red Cross in DM, Emergency Assessment, Reporting, Responsibilities of DDRT team, Disaster preparedness, First Aid, Search and Rescue, Water and Sanitation, safety audit, School and college evacuation plan, shelter management and security during emergency. About 140 Red Cross volunteers attended the training programme. The methodology adopted for the programme included Power point presentations, Group Discussion, Group presentations and practical sessions.


DM Red Cross Volunteers training programme at Nilgiris and Tirupattur



IRCS Nilgiris and Tiruppatur sub branch (Vellore District) conducted a one day DM Red Cross volunteers training programme with the support of IRCS NHQ and IFRC. About 80 volunteers attended the pogramme. The sessions included RC movements, DM concepts, types, Impacts, DM cycle, role of Red Cross in DM, Emergency Assessment, and role of volunteers in DM and disaster preparedness.

 

District Disaster Response Team refresher training at Trichy


The District Disaster Response Team Refresher Training programme was conducted on 28.11.2011 at IRCS Trichy District Branch . The sessions included RC movement, DM impacts, and role of Red Cross in DM, Emergency Assessment, Reporting, Responsibilities of DDRT teams during disasters. Fourty Red Cross Volunteers participated in the programme.

Flood Relief activity by Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch


Heavy rain and flood slashed Tiruppur, Erode and Coimbatore , Tirunelveli, and Niligiri Districts. About 5000 families were affected due to this flood. Indian Red Cross Society, TamilNadu branch distribute relief materials to the affected families in the above Districts without loss of time , since sufficient relief material containing the following items – sarees, bed sheets, towels lungies, steel plates, steel ladles , Aluminum cooking vessels with lid, aluminum taberas, plastic mats, korai mats, steel tumblers , were stoked well in advance as a measure of preparedness.
