TWO DAYS FAMILY NEWS SERVICE TRAINING AT MADURAI AND SIVAGANGA. .

  During the event of a disaster or conflict, other than the food, shelter and medical necessities, the non-physical wounds inflicted upon the members of the affected families have to be addressed too. A range of activities are done that aim to restore family links, prevent separation and disappearance, restore and maintain contact between family members, and clarify the fate of persons reported missing

  It involves collecting information about persons who are missing, dead, and vulnerable persons such as children separated from their families and persons deprived of their freedom. It also involves tracing persons unaccounted for, organizing the exchange of family news and the transmission of documents when normal means of communication have broken down, organizing family reunifications and repatriations, and issuing travel documents and attestations.

  In this connection, Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch conducted trainings for various people who belong to Red Cross associates like JRC, YRC and District Branch Members & Volunteers. Following that, a two-day FNS Training Programme on Tracing service for unaccompanied minors and psychological support was conducted in Madurai and Sivaganga District during November 2009.

• How to fill the Annexure V. VI and VII for Unaccompanied Minors

Out Come

Through this program, the participants were made aware of the tracing service that is provided by Red Cross. They learnt how to open tracing requests and perform active tracing when required. The participants responded very actively and were equipped well enough to disseminate this service to the public. They visited the CWC & Home for children and enabled the tracing service for the unaccompanied minors. A network would be developed with the government and the other NGOs. Their reporting skills were sharpened too. The YRC Coordinators wish to conduct the orientation on FNS for YRC volunteers at University Level.
