DM Awareness Program in Schools and Colleges

a. New College
Awareness Programme on Disaster Management, Global Warming and Climate Change was conducted in New College, Chennai on 7th October 2009. 100 YRC volunteers participated in this one day awareness program. As an output of this awareness program a 50 member DM Task Force was formed. Oratorical competition was conducted on the topic of “Manmade disasters” and prizes were distributed to the winners.
b. Stella Maris College, Chennai
Awareness Programme on Disaster Management, Global Warming and Climate Change was conducted in Stella Maris College, Chennai on 10th October 2009. 100 YRC volunteers participated in this one day awareness program.
c. C.S.I School Coonoor
Disaster Management Awareness Programme & Awareness on Global Warming and Climate Change was conducted at C.S.I. School, Coonoor on 10th September 2009. Tmt. G. Rajalakshmi, Chief Educational Officer was the Chief Guest, Capt. K. R. Mani, Chairman, IRCS, The Nilgiris presided the program. 105 Head Masters, teachers and students from various schools participated in this programme. In the end of the programme the teachers assured that they would create awareness on Global Warming and Climate Change among the children of their respective schools and neighborhoods
d. Polytechnic College, Kotagiri
Disaster Management Awareness Programme & Awareness on Global Warming and Climate Change was conducted at Polytechnic College, Kotagiri on 01st October 2009. 85 YRC students and an YRC Program Officers participated in the programme.
e. ABC Hall, Abu Babaji Charitable Trust, Ooty
Disaster Management Awareness Programme and Awareness on Global Warming & Climate Change was conducted for the JRC Students & Teachers of Ooty, Gudalur & Pandalur Taluks at ABC Hall, Abu Babaji Charitable Trust, Ooty on 21st October 2009. Mr. R. K. Bharathi, I.F.S, Project Director, Hill Area Development Programme, The Nilgiris and His Holiness Ramu Babaji, Abu Babaji Charitable Trust, Ooty were the guests of honour. Capt. K. R. Mani, Chairman, IRCS, The Nilgiris, Rtn. Prof. K. Gopal, Hon. Secretary, IRCS, Ln. N. Krishnamurthi, Treasurer, IRCS, The Nilgiris were also present. 185 JRC students and 25 JRC Counselors participated in the programme.
f. Shanthi Vijay School, Masinagudi
Disaster Management Awareness Programme & Awareness on Global Warming and Climate Change was conducted on 03rd November 2009 at Shanthi Vijay Girls School, Masinagudi for the Tribal School Children. Forest Fire being the most prevalent disaster in this area Awareness on Forest Fire and Climate Change were the specific topics discussed and explained to the students. Tmt. G. Rajalakshmi, Chief Educational Officer, The Nilgiris and Mr. Haldurai, DEO, Gudalur Taluk were the guests of honour. Mr. Laloo, Correspondent and Capt. K. R. Mani, Chairman, IRCS, The Nilgiris were present.
Volunteers Training Program
One day volunteers training program was organized in P. Velur, Namakkal District. 40 Red Cross Volunteers Participated in this training program. During this training Red Cross Movement Principles, Code of conduct, Roles and Responsibilities of Volunteers, Volunteers rights were detailed to the participants. In the end of the training program the volunteers preferred to start a Red Cross Branch in P. Velur and the proposal was accepted by the District Secretary Mr. C. Rajesh. Mr. C. Anbarasu, DM coordinator facilitated the training program.
