Celebration of World Red Cross Day

 

World Red Cross Day was celebrated in the State Branch premises on 8.5.10. Secretary Mrs.Shantha Diaz hoisted the flag and garlanded the Statue of the Founder Jean Henry Dunant. All the students from Nurse Aide, VT&RC and the staff participated in the function. The Secretary addressed the gathering. She spoke on the theme ‘URBANISATION’ with the special mention on good habits of safe drinking water, prevention of communicable and non communicable diseases Global warming and pollution.

She advised all the students to understand the Principles of Red Cross and motto of JRC & YRC with indepth knowledge and associate with day to day life for a peaceful and meaningful co-existence. The State Co-ordinator of JRC Mr. Gladwin also spoke about Urbanization and some of the students participated in some events. The programme came to end with National Anthem. 

 

 

 

The Secretary , Tamil Nadu Branch participated with Puducherry Union Territory Red Cross Branch celebration of the World Red Cross Day on 10th May 2010.

His Excellency the Lt. Governor and President Puducherry Union Territory Dr.Iqbal Singh was the Chief Guest. Dr.H.Ranganath, Chairman welcomed the gathering. Mrs. Shantha Diaz, Secretary, IRCS, Tamil Nadu State Branch participated and in her speech explained about the history of Red Cross, Principles and other activities Voluntary Blood Donation, Disaster Management, preparedness and response, Tracing activities and importantly the need to start Junior Red Cross in schools and Youth Red Cross in the colleges with the motto of Health, Service and Friendship to mould the youth to be Leaders of Tomorrow. His Excellency showed keen interest in activating the Puducherry Red Cross especially concentrating on JRC and YRC.

Vellore -

Thiru C. Rajendran, IAS., District Collector, Indian Red Cross Society, Vellore District Branch was the Chief Guest. Mrs. Susheela Suryaprakash, Hon. Secretary, IRCS, Vellore welcomed the audience and explained the activities of the Red Cross and the importance of the Celebration of World Red Cross Day. The Theme for the year is “URBANIZATION”. Thiru T.M.Vijayaraghavalu, Vice-President, IRCS, Vellore District Branch, gave a talk on Theme for the Founder’s Day Celebration. He also spoke of the importance of celebration of the World Red Cross Day and explained Life History of the Founder of Red Cross in detail to the audience. About 300 persons attended the programme. Thiru K.Ulaganathan, Hon. Treasurer, IRCS, Vellore Dist. Branch proposed a vote of Thanks with National Anthem, the programme ended.

During the celebration Blood Donation Camp conducted C.E.Os. Villupuram Educational District, Villupuram, Thiru Kuppusamy, CEO, Thiru Boopathy, DEO, Villupuram, Tiru R.Arul Selvan, Govt. Medical College Hospital, Mundiyampakkam, Thiru C.M..Balathandayudam , Hon.Secy., Thiru T.Elango, JRC Convener, Villupuram participated in the above camp. Thiru Palanisamy,IAS., District Collector presided over the function.

Chidambaram Sub-Branch -

  World Red Cross Day was celebrated  in the  Saradharam H.P. Petrol Bunk  premises, Dr.K.Natarajan, Chief Medical Officer,  Chidambaram conducted Blood grouping campaign to Auto, Car, Van and Bus drivers in the presence of  Thiru L.E.Vetri Veeramani, Rtd. Medical Officer, Govt. Hospital, Kattumanargudi.  JRC & YRC members and office bearers participated in the function.  Prevention of AIDS and awareness campaign was conducted.

 

 

 

 

 

Madurai

Urbanization and its problems:   Mr.G.Venkitasamy, EC Member of the branch delivered a lecture on clearly explained the causes for urbanization, impact of urbanization and possible remedies to mitigate the problems.  Because of stringent anthropogenic activities it has now become hard to have good air to breathe, water to drink and food to eat he remarked.  He stressed the discomforts generated due to concrete jungles and recommended to reduce the use of individual vehicular transport, fuels and indiscriminate use of water.       Dr.V.Velusamy, Secretary (I/c) and Treasurer, IRCS, District Branch and Medical Officer, Blood Bank, GRH presided over the function.

Nilgiris

-   World Red Cross Day was celebrated on Saturday the 8th May 2010 at Siriyur Tribal Village, Gudalur taluk.  Red Cross volunteers from Ooty undertook the cleanliness programme in the Tribal village.  Free Medical check up was also conducted for men, women and children of the entire Tribal village.  About 20 volunteers came forward to donate Blood.        




Attur Sub-Branch -

The Members of Attur Sub-Branch, IRCS and other Non-Govt. Service Organization participated in the function.  Attur Sub-Branch IRCS, Magazine                                                                                   “Vasittar”  was also released.
