Youth Red Cross

One day Workshop on Improving Voluntary Blood Donation for YRC Co-ordinators/District/Joint District Organizers/YRC Programme Officers of Periyar University supported by TANSAC was conducted at Salem on 16.03.2011. Prof.A.Kadar Basha, Hony.Advisor, YRC, delivered inaugural address. Mr.T.Sampath, Consultant, Voluntary Blood Donation, TANSAC delivered the key note address. Dr.V.Singaram, Principal, Salem Sowdeswari College felicitated the programme. Sessions were covered on Basic concept of Blood Transfusion Service & Blood Bank System, Basic Blood Science & Donor Selection Criteria, Voluntary Blood Donation & Role of TANSACS & TNSBTC; Principles and Strategies of donor Recruitment & Retention, Blood Donation Camps and donor records; Donor care & counseling.; Youth Red Cross & Voluntary Blood Donation, experience sharing, Strategies for increasing voluntary Blood Donation and role of YRC Programme Officers in Tamilnadu. 39 participants from 39 colleges of Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri affiliated to Periyar University attended the programme. Certificates were distributed. This programme was organized by Dr.T.Thirumoorthy, Zonal Co-ordinator of Periyar University, Salem.

One day District Level YRC Students Study Camp supported by State Branch were conducted on 15th, 24th, 25th, 26th, 29th & 31st of March 2011. at the respective districts at Tirunelveli, Tiruvarur, Trichy (Anna University), Ramanathapuram, Chennai (Tamilnadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University) by the respective District Organizer. About 150 YRC volunteers participated in the programme.

One day Zonal Level Seminar supported by State Branch was conducted on 05.03.2011 exclusively for the YRC Programme Officers of Polytechnic College of Salem Zone at Rajaji Institute of Technology, Salem. Prof.A.Kadar Basha, Hony.Advisor, YRC delivered the inaugural address. Dr.M.V.Rengaraja, Chairman & Correspondent, RIT delivered the presidential address. Sessions were covered on Red Cross Movement, YRC structure, Blood Donation, Youth Welfare activities. Dr.Venkata Varadhan, Advisor, Rajaji Institute delivered the valedictory address. Certificates were distributed. 30 YRC Programme Officers, Polytechnic Colleges from Dharmapuri, Salem, Krishnagiri, Namakkal participated in the programme.

One day Zonal level seminar for YRC Programme Officer supported by State Branch were supported by State Branch was conducted at Indira Ganesan College, Trichy on 24.03.2011. Sessions were covered on History of Red Cross, Principles, Structure.; HIV/AIDS & Blood Donation & First Aid. 18 participants participated in the programme.

3-days Zonal level Orientation Programmes supported by State Branch were conducted for YRC volunteers and for YRC Programme Officers by the Zonal Co-ordinators of Anna University, Coimbatore and Madurai Kamaraj University from 25-27th March 2011.

A meeting for YRC Programme Officers was conducted on 21.03.2011 at Red Cross office by Dr.R.Anuradha, Zonal Co-ordinator, University of Madras in order to review the YRC activities at the respective college levels. 27 YRC Programme Officers from the various colleges affiliated to University of Madras attended the meeting.

A Zone-wise meeting for Zonal Co-ordinators, District/Joint District Organizers of four zones (Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai) was conducted on 28th & 29th of March 2011. Meeting was conducted by Prof.A.Kadar Basha, Hony.Advisor, YRC & Dr.R.Ramesh Kumar, Hony. State Co-ordinator, YRC. Activities/Programmes conducted for the year 2010 – 2011 and plan of activities for the year 2011 – 2012 Agenda for the meeting. Totally 25 members attended the meeting. A gift voucher was presented to all the members by the Vice-President in appreciation of their involvement in YRC activities.
