Free Hearse (Mortuary ) Van Services Programme

The Government of Tamil Nadu in GO MS No 342/Health & Family Welfare (EAPI/I) Department dated 13.12.2010 has entrusted the implementation of FREE Hearse Mortuary Van Service Programme to the Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch for implementation.

An MOU has been signed in this regard out of 42 Old hearse vans provided by Tamil Nadu Health System Project to the Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch ,repairs have been carried out for the 14 vehicles including Painting, Stickering, Electrical and A/C and placed at the disposal of Madras Medical College, Chennai  – 7, Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai  – 3 and Stanly Medical College ,Chennai -4, totaling to 14 vehicles in the city of Chennai. During March, 625 Dead Bodies have been taken from the hospitals and delivered to the relatives at their homes at free of cost, as detailed below,

The other vehicles are under repair and refurbishing. These vehicles will be allotted to other Districts as soon as they are ready. The recruitment of Drivers and cleaners for the vehicles is under process.
