FAMILY NEWS SERVICE - DISASTER MANAGEMENT TASK FORCE TEAM, IPCD PROJECT

 

 

     During the event of a disaster, other than the food, shelter and medical necessities, the non-physical wounds inflicted upon the members of the affected families have to be addressed too. A range of activities are done that aim to restore family links, prevent separation and disappearance, restore and maintain contact between family members, and clarify the fate of persons reported missing. In an attempt to build the capacities of the local communities to respond to such needs, The Restoring Family Links (RFL) training is being imparted to local communities in the Integrated Program for Community Development (IPCD) operational area in the State. Maximizing on the existing contingent of volunteers, the training is being imparted to the Task Force Volunteers and staffs.

 

 


    Following that, a one-day FNS Training Programme on Tracing service for Disaster Prone Areas was conducted, as follows.,

  • 1. Nagapattinam District – 05.03.2011
  • 2. Cuddalore District - 06 & 07.03.2011
  • 3. Thiruvarur District – 15 TO 17 .03.2011
  • 4. Pudukottai – 22nd to 24.03.2011


     Forty DMTF (Disaster Management Task Force Team) volunteers in each programme having residence at the nearby coastal areas were selected especially for the tracing training programme so that, their service will be utilized at the community level in times of emergency and during disaster.


     

The topics on Red Cross Movement, RFL Introduction, Red Cross Message, Tracing, Tracing Group Work, Tracing During Natural Disaster, Mock Drill of (RCM) Data Collection and (Tracing Request) missing person matching process were handled by the Tracing Officer, from Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch and District Coordinator of IPCD Project, Nagapattinam District.

Through this program, the participants were made aware of the tracing service that is provided by Red Cross. They learnt how to open tracing requests and perform active tracing during Disaster. The participants responded very actively and were equipped well enough to disseminate this service to their community.
