| LAUNCHING OF NEW PROJECTS
On 05.06.2011, His Excellency THIRU. SURJIT SINGH BARNALA, Governor of Tamil Nadu & President, Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch launched the following new projects undertaken by the Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch.
- The Solid Waste Management pilot project at a cost of Rs.73.50 lakhs in the five villages of the coastal districts of Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai and Thanjavur are to be implemented under the integrated program for community development project , supported by Canadian Red Cross.
- To create awareness on health & hygiene among the youths in rural areas and Promotion of hygiene among adolescent girl students in villages and by installation of Napkin Vending Machines deserve a special mention. This project in 25 Girls High School & Girls Higher Secondary School aims to promote safe hygiene practices among them. The efforts are made by the Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch for taking up hygiene care of adolescent girls at a cost of Rs.7 lakhs under the ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’ programme .
- It is proposed to start Red Cross Clinical Laboratory in all 32 districts of Tamil Nadu for needy poor and downtrodden. Lab Equipments, glassware reagents and kits etc will be provided by Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch with infrastructure facilities. The project cost is Rs.75000/- for each district.
