YOUTH RED CROSS ACTIVITIES

A four day State level YRC Training cum Study Camp for YRC Volunteers and Programme Officers was held at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore from 12th December to 15th December hosted by Zonal Co-ordinator, Bharathiar University in which 124 student and 19 Programme Officers drawn from 19 Universities of Tamil Nadu State participated. Thiru Harish L Metha, Vice - President and Chairman inaugurated the Training camp followed by felicitation by M. Senthilnathan, Treasurer, IRCS, TNB, Dr. Nandhini Rangaswamy, Chairperson, IRCS, Coimbatore Branch and Prof. A. Kadar Basha, Hony.Advisor, YRC IRCS, TNB. The programme covered various topics like Disaster Management, Tracing services and awareness of HIV/Aids, first Aid, Leadership and importance of Yoga. On the final day Dr. P.K.Manoharan, Dean, Bharathiyar University delivered the valedictory addressed.Thiru.S.Kumaraguruparan,Development Officer, IRCS, TNB coordinated with the Co-ordinators of the University for the Successful Conduct of the programme.

The Department of Youth Welfare, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli in collaboration with IRCS, TNB organised a 3day zonal level orientation programme for YRC students and programme Officers at Gramodhaya Training Centre , Tirunelveli. 75 YRC students were benefitted. The Programme was inaugurated by Prof. Kadar Basha, Hony. Advisor, IRCS, TNB. The topics covered in the session included History of Red Cross, Disaster Management, and Leadership, Blood donation, volunteerism and first aid. Thiru D.A.Prabhakaran, Chairman, IRCS, Tirunelveli Branch and Vice - Chairman, IRCS, TNB. delivered the valedictory address on the final day, in which the State Branch was represented by Thiru S. A one day orientation programme for YRC students and Programme Officers was conducted at College of Engineering, Guindy on 24th December 2011 by YRC Unit of Anna University which was inaugurated by Prof. A. Kadar Basha. Various topics including the history of Red Cross, first aid and awareness of aids were covered in the programme.

Volunteering Service

The YRC volunteers from Stella Mary's College and Annai Velankkanni College rendered their services at Opthomology Hospital, Egmore during December 2011, guiding and helping the patients and visitors to the hospital.

To gain knowledge about the Red Cross moment and the activities carried on by IRCS, TNB, 5 Students from Apollo College of Nursing, 7 students from Sri Ramachandra College of Nursing, 30 students from Stella Maris College, Chennai visited the State Branch and were taken round the various departments and were briefed about the activities carried on.

Notable visit is by 2 students from Red Cross University College of Nursing, 'SWEDEN' during December 2011, who were impressed by the laudable services rendered by Indian Red Cross Society, Tamilnadu Branch.
