| FREE HEARSE VAN PROGRAMME (Mortuary Van Service Programme)
On the day of Christmas (ie) 25.12.2011, in an unfortunate incident of Boat Capsize near the sea mouth of Pulicat lake in Tiruvallur District, 22 members belonging to the same family lost their lives. Miraculously, due to the efforts of a local fisherman, three boys alone were rescued. Rescue operations started immediately. On the advice of the District Collector, Tiruvallur, message was received from Police Department to the call centre of Free Hearse Services of IRCS, TNB at 4.00 P.M. Immediately a group of personnel from Free Hearse Services, IRCS, TNB rushed to the spot with 8 mortuary vans and plunged into action for transportation of all the 22 dead bodies from the lake, to the Govt. Hospital at Ponneri and then to burial ground, after post - mortem. Relatives of the diseased people expressed their sentiments of gratitude for the timely help rendered by the Free Hearse Services Personnel of IRCS, TNB.

Drivers - 13 FHS, IRCS-TNB.

Thiru Balu - IRCS Staff.
A total of 43 Mortuary vans have been deployed to meet the demand all over Tamil Nadu. During Dec 2011 alone 1848 bodies were transported to the native places of the deceased on the request of their relatives. The team consists of 4 personnel involved in the task. The steady progress in the increased no of corpus transported is an indication of the awareness felt by the needy public, on the efforts taken by Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch and its District branches all over Tamil Nadu. Altogether, A total of 9983bodies were transported all over Tamil Nadu from the inception of Free Hearse Service by the Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch.
