DISATER MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES FOR "THANE CYCLONE" AFFECTED PEOPLE


The moment Flash News regarding "Thane Cyclone" was received on 2/1/2011, efforts were taken on war footing manner by Indian Red Cross Society Tamil Nadu Branch to alleviate the distress of the affected people at Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu. The team of Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch consisting of personnel from IPCD, Disaster Management and Tracing were pressed into service to collect quick information about the disaster, gear up the relief machinery to store relief materials, contact the District Branch to channelize supply of relief materials to the affected people by diverting relief materials without any loss of time. This urgent relief measures taken by Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch is expected to reach the needy people by 06.01.2012 and cover 1000 families at the initial stage, by the untiring efforts of the personnel of Indian Red Cross, Tamil Nadu Branch and the Secretary Cuddalore District branch under the able guidance of Thiru. The efforts are on, non- stop until suffering people are provided with minimum essential requirements by Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch through the Branch Office at Cuddalore.

Donations from public are solicited by the Indian Red Cross Society, Tamilnadu Branch for the above purpose. Donations may be sent by cheque / D.D drawn in favour of "Indian Red Cross Society, Tamilnadu Branch" payable at chennai and sent to Indian Red Cross Society, No 32/50, Montieth Road, Egmore, Chennai - 600 008.


DDRT Formation and training at Pudukottai District

 

IRCS Pudukottai District branch organized District Disaster response team formation and training programme with support of Canadian Red Cross, for selected volunteers on 2nd and 3rd December, 2011. The following sessions were handled during the training RC movement, DM and impacts, and role of Red Cross in DM, Emergency Assessment, reporting, and Responsibilities of DDRT team, Disaster preparedness, Relief distribution, Search and Rescue, Water and Sanitation, shelter management and security during emergency.


Sixty Red Cross volunteers attended the training programme. The methodology adopted for the programme included Power point presentations, Group Discussion, Group presentations and practical sessions. The participants included persons from Different villages, colleges, JRC counsellors and life members

 

Disaster Management Activity under Youth Red Cross Programme


During the 4 days State level Youth Red Cross Training camp held at Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore from 12th December 2011 to 15th December 2011. The following sessions were handled by Jisho Jacob, Disaster Management Coordinator IRCS TNB; During the training, Lessons from the past disasters DM programmes and activities in Red cross Types of disasters, Disaster management and role of Youth red cross volunteers were covered. 100 Youth Red Cross volunteers attended the training programme. The methodology adopted for the programme included Power point presentations and Group Discussion. The participants from Different universities, colleges, and YRC programme officers attended the programme.

 

DM Training for Red Cross volunteers at Chennai District Branch


IRCS Chennai District Branch organized DM training for Red Cross volunteers with support from IRCS NHQ, for selected volunteers on 18th December 2011 at Singaram Pillai Matri Hr School, Villivakkam Chennai.The sessions included RC movement, DM impacts, and role of Red Cross in DM, Emergency Assessment, Reporting, Responsibilities of DDRT teams during disasters. The methodology adopted for the programme included Power point presentations and Group Discussion. 40 Red Cross volunteers attended the training programme. The participants from colleges, volunteers and life members from in and around Chennai attended the programme.
